Visiting Professor Adriana Qubaiova Holds a Workshop in Salzburger Kunstverein

Adriana Qubaiova was invited to hold a workshop examining Gazan artist Laila Shawa’s  exhibited works from a gendered and feminist perspective, hosted by Salzburg Art Association on September 14. Titled “Reading Between the Walls: Looking for Gender; Seeing Sex" Adriana reviewed some of the dominant Orientalist dualisms that haunt Shawa's art pieces. She asked the audience to reflect on how a Palestinian artist from Gaza speaks – and is heard, seen, and understood – in Austria today. The workshop also examined Shawa’s artistic legacy in relation to the current reality of Israel’s genocide in Gaza and cultural erasure.
