Contesting Colonial Legacies in Academia and Beyond took place on October 3, 2025, co-organized by the CEU Department of Gender Studies, as part of the 52nd Austrian Association for American Studies (AAAS) Conference, the University of Vienna, and the AAAS. The roundtable, organized and moderated by Prof. Dr. Nadia Jones-Gailani (CEU), featured Professor Dr. Carole Boyce Davies (Howard University) with responses from Dr. Marta Werbanowska (University of Vienna) and Jessica Nogueira Varela (CEU). The discussion centered on decolonial feminist approaches to global blackness and the role of academia in contesting colonial legacies, combating complicity in maintaining structural inequality, and serving local communities through activism. The hybrid event drew over a hundred participants and fostered lively exchange among students, scholars, and activists, highlighting CEU’s commitment to inclusive and interdisciplinary dialogue across institutions.
