Cultural Studies

Several members of our department pursue research and teach courses that examine culture in its various forms and genres, with an emphasis on literature and visual culture. They engage with these cultural forms to better understand the operation of power and the production of subjectivities alongside the axes of gender, sexuality, and other kinds of social relations. Faculty members’ subfields in cultural studies include literary studies, with a focus on women’s literature and transnational literature, social geography, media studies, social semiotics, cultural anthropology, and performance studies.
