In conversation with Volodymyr Ishchenko, Adriana Qubaiova delivered a keynote on “Bursting Polycrisis: Palestine and Ukraine in Perspective”. The discussion addressed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Israel’s occupation of Palestine, including the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Both speakers reflected on the problematic comparisons between the two wars and how they impact Eastern and Central Europe. Adriana further reviewed the settler-colonial frame as a key analytical tool, critiqued the double standards in academia’s reaction to the war in Ukraine versus Gaza, and addressed the European left’s unresolved tension with the idea of Palestinian resistance.
The conference was organized by the BABEȘ BOLYAI UNIVERSITY and TRANZIT.RO/CLUJ as part of the PHILSE Project (PHILOSOPHY IN LATE SOCIALIST EUROPE: THEORETICAL PRACTICES IN THE FACE OF POLYCRISIS). See the conference webpage here.
