Several members of the GENS department attended the annual AtGender Conference, which was hosted by the Kadir Has University in Istanbul this year under the theme “Feminist Pedagogy of/Under Borders”.
The GENS Head of Department, Nadia Jones Gailani, presented a paper on “Anti-Migration Discourses in Hungary: How the Muslim ‘Other’ is Constituted” as part of a discussion on pedagogies of exclusion in Europe. Visiting Professor Adriana Qubaiova organized two panels, the first on “Experiences, Challenges, and Pedagogical Insights in Teaching Middle Eastern Gender and Sexuality Studies in Europe” with a group of scholars form Lebanese Studies. The second panel was on “Palestinian Epistemologies and Resistance: Translating Revolutionary Thought Across Borderlands Today” with a group of emerging Palestinian scholars of Palestine.
