Adriana is a scholar of gender and sexuality in West Asia (Middle East). She holds a PhD in Comparative Gender Studies from the Central European University. Placing herself between the fields of Gender and Sexuality Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and Queer Anthropology, she has been building a new conceptual framework for the study of “the sexual” in the region based on ethnographic research in Lebanon.
Adriana is also a passionate instructor with rich experience in teaching across several local and international universities, including: Middlebury College, Arizona State University, University of Vienna, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Her further research and teaching interests include: armed conflict, NGOization, LGBT activism, and Queer Refugee Studies. She is currently working on a book project tentatively titled “Hedging Sexualities in Beirut”.
Adriana joins CEU's GENS department as a Visiting Professor until 2025. She is the current Director of the department's 2-year Masters in Critical Gender Studies program, and overseeing the Internship Program.
