      Zero Week Lecture Series 2018-2019

presents 

If one is involved in research and academic teaching with focus on Russia-related Gender Studies it makes a difference whether one is located in, say, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Columbus (Ohio), London or Vienna. In my lecture, I will sketch the development of Russia-related Gender Studies in Russia and elsewhere, and the connections between the various locations, protagonists, and practices. I put this field of research in the context of the global division of labour within the social sciences and humanities, applying the concept of academic dependency.

Therese Garstenauer is Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Economic and Social History, University of Vienna. She is currently working on her habilitation on government employees and their conduct of life in interwar Austria. Her latest publications include Gender und Queer Studies in Russland [Gender and Queer Studies in Russia] in: L’Homme – Europäische Zeitschrift für Feministische Geschichtswissenschaft, 28, 2 (2017), 127 – 136 (a translation of the article into Russian has recently been published in the journal "Sociology of Power", see http://socofpower.ranepa.ru/ru/arkhiv-nomerov/58-1-2018-sotsiologiya-seksualnosti); her monograph "Russlandbezogene Gender Studies: Lokale, globale und transnationale Praxis" [Russia-related Gender Studies: Local, Global and Transnational Practice], V & R Unipress, Göttingen, is forthcoming in the fall 2018.
