August 2, 2021

“There is a kind of emotional blackmailing that women should produce more children,” Professor Andrea Peto said in BBC World Service’s The Inquiry.

She discussed that for the Orban regime, family policy is a flagship political program, but “it is only the facade, and what is beyond is very interesting.” She also talked about how the government, instead of promoting flexible working, gave financial incentives for families, adding that it wasn’t only about increasing the population, but is rather “the modus operandi of the economic policy of the state,” and it is also directing the role of women. she said.

Andrea Peto also talked about the policy’s long lasting impacts on families, and its economic consequences.
